It is mainly used as an efficient foaming agent for expandable polystyrene
Pentane foaming agent is extremely flammable. Its vapor and air can form explosive mixture, which is easy to burn and explode in case of open fire and high heat. It reacts strongly with oxidant and even causes combustion. Liquid is lighter than water, insoluble in water, can drift with water and spread to the distance, and cause combustion in case of open fire. In the fire scene, the heated container may explode. Its vapor is heavier than air, and can spread to a considerable distance at a lower place. It will cause ignition and reburning when encountering fire source. Pentane foaming agent is a low toxic chemical. The main health hazards are as follows: high concentration can cause mild irritation of eye and respiratory tract mucosa, anesthesia state, and even loss of consciousness. Chronic effects are mild irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract.
